TYPES OF FEMALE UNDERWEAR AND THEIR PURPOSES (VOL1)

While we're learning about our body shape and how to style them, lets take a look at our underwear wardrobe, shall we?...yep!!.
So many ladies I see on the streets of Lagos everyday pay little or no attention to their underwear (bras,pants,tights,leggings,e.t.c) and its really tacky, as my favorite female pastor will say "for a classy lady to have a VPL or VCT (visible camel toe & visible panty line respectively)

visible camel toe

visible panty line

Hmmmm!!! How do we curb this trend? first lets learn the names of our underwear and their purposes:

First we have boyshorts, like its name, it looks like shorts, its very comfortable when you buy your size ;) and should be worn under what we call mini skirts or gowns that fit (not sheaths though)

We have shape wears for those who exercise a lot or for those who just want to achieve a 'perfect shape' in their choice outfits. it should be worn under leggings or any kind of material that sticks so close to the skin and (or) gives you 'shaky bottoms' VPLs and VCTs are very common when ladies wear leggings or sport wears.....not a good sight. (yuck).

G-string. most ladies make the mistake of wearing them when they wear shaky bottoms, they should be worn together with a shape wear or a pair of tights.

Thongs.the g-string is sometimes mistaken for thongs, check out the differences in  the pictures. It works well with body hugging dresses, but not free flowing dresses, skirts, shorts or trousers.

Foundation undergarments are known as tights by Naija ladies, and the are to be worn under body hugging dresses , see through or filmy (sheer) dresses. They should be same length as dress so they don;t peek out. They can also be worn together with the g-string when wearing 'shaky bottoms'.

Then there is the Brief panty or Granny panty. like the name implies, they are an old type of underwear, many young ladies hate this pants and don't wear them at all while some mummies and mature women wear them a lot....every where/anywhere. Like the saying goes, every dog has its day, the Granny panties are not to be worn on every cloth and are not to be ignored totally. they are to be worn with free flowing skirts or dresses (short or long) also to be worn with wrappers or sheer dresses.

the seamless briefs (no elastic) and bikini underwear are also good for tight dresses and sheer dresses as they leave no VPLs (they are very smooth).

The Hipster is quite popular in our Naija markets today. Net like or lace panties of various sizes and colours. They are non elastic and are good for hiding panty lines. they are best won under trousers (formal, jeans, chinos e.t.c)

Lastly ladies, you have to be careful with colors. black, nude, greys should be the popular colors in your undies bag/shelf. Drop the colored/printed panty for  colored/printed dresses, the red panty for your dark colored jeans (blue,brown,black...) or dark colored dresses. Whatever your outfit is,use you discretion, check out yourself in the mirror before leaving home. Not just your hair and make up but your underwear too. Say NO to VPLs and VCTs. Stay classy.
