Highlights from GTB FSHN WEEKEND.

Saturday 9th of November 2017 was a total fashion experience at the GTB FSHN WEEKEND. From the exhibition stands, to the Master Classes, to the fashion shows, it just was a totally enjoyable fashion day out.

I attended Shiona Turini's MasterClass on Fashion in The Digital Age and here's what I learnt:

  • There are different jobs in fashion; fashion designing, styling, costume designing, marketing and sales, publishing, to mention a few.
  • Internship is key. If you have an interest in gaining fashion ground, start from somewhere. It might not be the end point you have in mind, but it helps in the long run.
  • On video Styling (which she does a lot of recently) it could be a learning process as you might not know whats needed to style a group of footballers and theirs fans if you're not a fan yourself. That's where research comes in. Ask questions, go online.
  • Know your limitations. know when to say 'NO'.
  • Have somebody else do the pricing for you. As a start up stylist, don't let money be your goal but being the best at what you do.Balance bigger clients with smaller or 'pro-bono' clients, do some jobs for free. At some point, you will need a manager. It's advisable to let someone you trust do the negotiations and money talk on your behalf.
  • While working for a brand or building yours, create video content for Instagram, Youtube and any other social media popular in your country and environs to create awareness for your products.
  • Make sure your client is happy. Even if you don't like their choice ("These shoes are ugly, but my client will love them.")

I ran into some fashionably dressed people...

Myself and a cute mascot.... I was happily scared.
Thank you GTBank for this wonderful experience. I'm looking forward to next years edition already.
