Buhari To Finally Address Issue Of Restructuring

President Muhammadu Buhari will discuss the spending of the Paris Club refund by states with governors as well as the agitation for restructuring.
The Nation reports that President Buhari called a meeting of governors at Aso Villa which will take place on Friday, August 25.

Sources revealed that the president was overwhelmed with the support he has received from governors since his return to the country on Saturday, August 19.

The issue of the release of the last tranche of the Paris Club refund believed to be N200billion will also be discussed as well as the issue of security of the nation.
A source at the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) said state chief executives have been notified of the meeting.
The source said: “I can confirm to you that the meeting will hold on Friday and the state chief executives have been notified.
“It is important to note that the President had initially expressed his happiness on the role the governors played in keeping the country together while he was away.
“The issues of restructuring, insecurity, hate speech and threats would top the agenda.”
Meanwhile, the Southern Leaders Forum (SLF) reacted to President Buhari’s address to the nation saying his discussion with Emeka Ojukwu does not end the discussion on Nigeria.
The Punch reports that the leaders met in Lagos on Wednesday, August 23 over the need for the country to be restructured.
The forum insisted that the discussion on restructuring starts with the president and not the National Assembly as contained in Buhari’s speech.
“While the composition of the National Assembly is clearly jigged and indeed one of the bodies to be restructured, the National Council of State is not open to Nigerians. If any discourse is to take place on constitutional changes within the democratic framework, Mr. President is the one who has the responsibility to initiate the process.”
