Police Seals Off Lagos PDP Secretariat

A new twist emerged in the crisis rocking the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the party’s Lagos secretariat was sealed off by policemen on Thursday July 27.

According to reports, the secretariat, located at Adekunle Fajuyi Way in Ikeja GRA, Lagos, had been taken over by heavily armed policemen earlier in the day.

The police-takeover comes amidst the tussle between factions of the party loyal to Ahmed Makarfi and Ali Modu Sheriff.

The premises had been occupied by a faction loyal to the ousted former chairman Sheriff, before the Supreme Court passed its judgement affirming the leadership of the National Caretaker Committee led by Makarfi.

However, the state executive led by Hon. Mashood Salvador has been making moves to return back to the property, after the apex court ruled in favor of Makarfi.

The state executive had vacated the premises following an earlier ruling by the Appeals Court which affirmed Sheriff’s leadership.

The Lagos state Police Command, hence, took over the secretariat in order to prevent clashes between both camps.

According to the command, in a statement signed by its spokesman ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, it had sealed up the secretariat “as a result of the little crisis between the two (2) leadership factions.”

It added further, “the command is using this opportunity to warn both factions to maintain peace and order in the state”.

Meanwhile, it was previously reported that senator Ali Modu Sheriff, the ousted former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) made a complete turn around, after initially congratulating Ahmed Makarfi over his victory at the Supreme Court.

Sheriff stated that he was in shock over the ruling, and was waiting to be briefed by his lawyers about the situation.

His new reaction was contained in a statement signed by Dr. Cairo Ojuogboh, his erstwhile deputy; and Bernard Mikko, his faction’s former spokesperson.
