Manchester City, Pellegrini: Iheanacho's the reason I didn't replace Edin Dzeko

Nigerian youngster Kelechi Iheanacho may as well maximize to the fullest the opportunity he's got at Manchester City. Manchester City manager, Manuel Pellegrini has stated that Iheanacho will play an important role to the title chase of the Citizens this term.

In his second appearance for Manchester City, Iheanacho ran to a rebound in the 90th minute to tap in the only goal at Crystal Palace. That goal however secured all three points and maintained a 100% start to the season for Man City.

Manuel Pellegrini having seen the development of Kelechi Iheanacho kept faith in him after striker, Edin Dzeko left The club for Italian club, Roma.

"He's a very important player for us. He's just 18 and started working with our squad last season, but he was unlucky and had a big injury in the last three months of the season," Pellegrini said to AFP.

"This year he started pre-season with the squad and will be a very important player for the future."

"He's one of the reasons I didn't bring another striker in when we sold Edin Dzeko. He deserves that chance. I told him to go and score a goal."

"I was going to make the substitution before, because Wilfried Bony had only worked the last few days with the team, but he told me he was okay. That's why I kept him on, but Kelechi deserved more minutes. It was important he took that chance," said Pellegrini
